Sir Issac Newton developed the theories of gravitation in 1666 at 23 years old. Approximately 20 years later in 1686, Newton created the three laws of motion. The laws of motion were scientific breakthroughs and I want to share how it can bring breakthrough to your personal life today.
These three laws of motion correlate directly with the three laws of personal development. The laws personal development keep us in motion to fulfill our dreams. When we implement and live out these laws we become the force that moves our body into action. If we have great ambitions in life it’s paramount to know these laws.
Let’s take a closer look at the three laws and how they can grow your life.
The Three Laws of Motion & Development
The 1st Law of Motion – An object at rest will remain at rest & an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted on by a force.
If an object isn’t moving it will require a force to move. If an object is already moving it will require a force to decrease or increase its speed or move its motion into a different direction.
1st Personal Development Law – IMPULSE
There are three principles found in the first law of motion for personal development.
- We’re not moving and not progressing in life and need to be moved into action.
- We’re moving too slow or too fast to achieve our future healthily in our lifetime.
- We’re going in the wrong direction in life and need a shift to realign us to our purpose.
Each principle above requires the need of an impulse to 1) move us into action; 2) slow us down or speed us up; or 3) shift us into a new direction so that we can arrive at our dream life with our family intact. Think about your life for a moment and ask yourself what principles above do you need to implement? What “impulse” do you need to intentionally create in your life to propel you forward to fulfill your goals and destiny?
The 2nd Law of Motion – Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass.
The greater the mass, the greater the force needed to accelerate the object.
Force = Mass x Acceleration
Example: kicking a soccer ball and kicking a brick wall. Each requires a different strategy and amount of force to move.
2nd Personal Development Law- ACCELERATION
Here are a few questions to get us to the principle found in the 2nd law of motion.
- Where are you going in life?
- Where do you want to go in life?
- How fast do you want to get there?
- What’s the best speed for you to get there in a healthy fashion?
I believe for most of us we know where we want to be in life. From occupation to free time, no one knows our desires better than ourselves. The problem is we want to get there fast and we want to get there now. We want acceleration but sometimes we go so fast that we lose and forget about everyone else that we wanted to take along on the journey.
Think about where you want to go, how fast you want to get there and then is that speed is healthy enough to bring your spouse, children, family and friends on that journey. Sometimes many of us lose the very things that we love to get the things we think we want. While you’re creating a living don’t forget to nurture your life because at the end of life it’s not about what you did but who you did it with that counts.
The 3rd Law of Motion – For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
When NASA launches shuttles into space they determine the amount of energy required to move the shuttle from earth into space. They spend almost all of their time configuring, measuring and testing their formulas to make sure they get it right. They have a desired destination for their shuttle but their time is spent on the foundation of the shuttle. The amount of energy that projects backwards is the amount of speed the shuttle will move forward.
3rd Personal Development Law – FOUNDATION
This law of motion is a backwards concept. If you want to go forward, then all your energy must go backwards. This law is one of my favorites in life.
I have always wanted to be in a place of influence. My goals and desires had me chasing opportunity constantly. It wasn’t healthy or fun. When I would “arrive” all I had to offer them was me. It wasn’t enough because I wasn’t a healthy, happy or free person.
I had all the opportunity but it was only the ones I created. There was a shift in my intention and actions when I realized I didn’t want to go places that didn’t value me outside of my pursuit of them.
When I began to just focus in on my message, my influence and my value I could add to people I began to see more opportunity than ever before. When I would meet with people my agenda wasn’t to get something but rather to give something.
Life is such a journey with so many lessons to be learned on the road. When all our focus is just to get to the top then we miss out on building the foundational principles that by default launch us towards our desires.
In conclusion – These laws of personal development work as we implement them into our decision making, principles and lives. First, we must understand the issues we are facing and discover what impulses are needed to stop us, slow us down, speed us up or move us into a different direction. We must know our destination and set our speed at a healthy limit to get there in one piece and with those we love most. Lastly, no matter how far we go we have to invest into ourselves and our foundation. We are the platform others will launch off of. The best investment we can make is in ourselves. Implement these principles and watch as your life because to flourish like never before.
